It covers the basics: 24-hour reception, free internet access, laundry, parking and a bar/lounge area.

The hotel's overall score of 6.8 from 570 reviews is below the area average of 8.7, and guests tend to describe breakfast as simple. In brief

What works, what to weigh

+

Strengths

3 reasons to book
  • Right next to Termini — Guests put it at a few metres or a one-minute walk from Rome's main railway station, which makes arriving by train and setting off around the city unusually simple.
  • Staff who go beyond the basics — From tourist information and restaurant tips to sorting a camera charger and helping with an early checkout, the staff are the most consistent reason guests would return.
  • A sensible price for the position — The listed starting price of £148, combined with the central location, gives the hotel a clear value proposition for short stays.

Worth weighing

3 to weigh
  • Rating sits below the local average — With an overall score of 6.8 from 570 reviews against an area average of 8.7, this is not a hotel that wins on polish. Expect a two-star standard rather than anything more.
  • Breakfast is simple — The continental breakfast is described as basic. One guest who left at 7am was still given a croissant and a drink, but it is worth planning around the 8–10am serving window.
  • The immediate streets aren't the prettiest — One returning guest notes the streets around the hotel look a bit rough, even though they felt safe walking around day and night. It is a functional area rather than a scenic one.

“Well located near Termini station. The fifth-floor room was excellent, with three balconies. Staff were kind and helpful, breakfast was acceptable, and the bathroom was cleaned daily with fresh towels. Plenty of blankets, and the triple room has a sauna.”

“This was our second time at Hotel Aquarium and we love it. Although the surrounding streets look a little rough, we've always felt safe walking around the area day and night, and it's conveniently close to Rome's main railway station. There are a few good inexpensive restaurants a minute's walk down the street. The staff at Hotel Leonardo are very friendly and the rooms are clean. There is an espresso machine in the foyer so you can get a coffee at any time.”

“The only positive was the friendly, helpful staff, who gave us tourist information.”
